I am thankful to Joanne Davis and Jana Dupre for entrusting me with this little girl. She has a lovely pedigree and we have high hopes for her at Denmel in the future. Her litter theme was race horses, but this one seemed so appropriate (Smart Surprise). It is a red filly who recently won a big race in Texas, which is where the litter was whelped. Also, this puppy was apparently the first one to figure things out, like how to climb the ramp to the little slide and head down the other side.
We were proud of Smartie at the DPCA Futurity where she placed 1st in her class (6-9 mo. AOAC bitches) under esteemed breeder/handler Marge Brooks. Then she was 4th in her class at the DPCA National Specialty under Nancy Christensen. She was noticed by many well-known handlers and breeders, as well as her littermates that attended. She was handled there by Jr Handler Danica Eiswerth who also competed in Juniors with her dog Rita and won the best junior in the Specialty.
3 weekends out and Canadian Champion at 8 1/2 months. As a young bitch, she has multiple breed wins and several group placements.
BCDPC Easter Weekend 2010, and Smartie was Grand Sweepstakes Winner under Dawn Danner, and then won Judge's Award of Merit under Mary White at the Specialty. I was so proud of her! ADPC Specialty 2 weeks later Smartie received another Award of Merit, this time under Mary Rodgers.
We travelled to Mt Baker KC for Smartie's first showing in the US. Danica Eiswerth handled her to BOW her first day for her 1st US point, and she was RWB the second day.
In Portage La Prairie, MB for the DPCC Nationals she was handled by myself (Denise Mellor) for the following wins:
DPCC Sweepstakes under Michelle Czeborarenku: Best in Sweeps
DPCC National Specialty under Pamela Dehetre: Award of Merit
All Breed show the day of the National, under Pat Taylor: Best of Breed and Working Group 1st.
Topeka, KS USA for DPCA Regional and Nationals Oct 2010. Smartie was 3rd in AmBred AOAC handled by Danica Eiswerth.
Nov 20, 2010 Smartie was in Monroe, WA USA with Danica Eiswerth and was WB, BOW, and BOB over specials under judge Lee Canalizo.
At the end of April 2011, I drove to the Seward Nebraska show with Smartie and her sister Salsa, so that they can stay with breeders Joanne Davis and Jana Dupre and be shown in the US by Jana. First day at the NE show, Smartie was WB for another point (3 total AKC points now).
Gardner KS May 21, 2011 Smartie was WB, BOW for 2 points (so 5 now). She has quite a few RWB, so when not the winner, often close! Tough competition down there with many lovely bitches to beat for points.
Tulsa, OK May 26, 2011, Smartie was RWB in both Doberman Pinscher Specialties, under Erika Hoffman-Gatti and handled by Joanne Davis, and also under George Murray handled by Jana Dupre.
Tulsa OK May 27, 2011 Smartie was WB for a 4 Point Major under respected judge Dana Cline, handled by Jana Dupre. So Smartie now has 9 AKC Ch points, including 1 major.
Tulsa OK May 30, 2011 Smartie was WB for a 3 Point Major under Judge Mary Ann Brocious, again with Jana Dupre handling. She now has 12 points with both of her Majors. Only 3 points to go!!
Gardner KS, Smartie was WB 2 days for 2 points more, giving her 14 total. 1 Point to go for her AKC Ch.
Texarkana AR, Smartie was WB for her 3rd Major in the US!! This finishes her American Championship in style! She is now Am/Can CH Sunburg's Smart Surprise. I am one very proud owner, and thank you to Joanne and Jana for her US showing, and for letting me have this fabulous girl!
We moved Smartie to Specials at the Cambridge MN shows, since I was driving to pick her up anyway. Jana cannot show her as she already has a Specials Bitch. Shannon Houg showed her at the Friday & Sat Specialties, and Smartie was Best of Opposite Friday under Coleman Nemerov for 5 Gr Ch points (Major) and Select Bitch Saturday under Bonnie Linnell Clarke for 4 Gr Ch Points (2nd Major). We were very proud of our little girl!
July 30, 2011 Smartie won the ADPC Doberman Specialty in Calgary AB under Judge Doug Jensen of Cedar Knoll Dobermans, Nebraska USA. She was handled to this great win by Lori Gauvin. Same day at Canada's largest outdoor show, she was BOB under Donna Buxton of TX and she awarded her a Group 4th from a Working Group that included many multi BIS winners. I was so proud of my little girl!
Aug 6 & 7 2011 Smartie and I travelled to the IABCA Spokane Valley Sieger show in Post Falls ID USA. of the 4 shows, Smartie went Working Grp 2 in 1, and BIS in the other 3. Then she went on to win the Grand Sieger competition! And handled by me this time! She also was rated V1 by all 4 judges, and obtained another new title of Internation Champion.
Dec 31, 2011. With limited Canadian showing, Smarie finished the year as Canada's #10 Doberman, #3 Doberman Bitch handled by Lori Gauvin.
