I am thankful to Joanne Davis and Jana Dupre for entrusting me with this little girl.  She has a lovely pedigree and we have high hopes for her at Denmel in the future.  She will be shown in conformation after mid Sept 2009 (after she reaches 6 months of age).  Her litter theme was race horses, but this one seemed so appropriate (Smart Surprise).  It is a red filly who recently won a big race in Texas, which is where the litter was whelped.  Also, this puppy was apparently the first one to figure things out, like how to climb the ramp to the little slide and head down the other side.  She is also very "dog smart" already.  When the older girls in my house growl her off, like when she pokes her head in their food bowl, she immediately gets it.  Thank you Hannah for being such a good mom and teaching her dog language!

Smartie went to her first show in Lloydminster SK to "practice" for the DPCA Nationals in KY in Oct.  She came home with 3 points and took the breed at one of the shows.

We were proud of Smartie at the DPCA Futurity where she placed 1st in her class (6-9 mo. AOAC bitches) under esteemed breeder/handler Marge Brooks.  Then she was 4th in her class at the DPCA National Specialty under Nancy Christensen.  She was noticed by many well-known handlers and breeders, as well as her littermates that attended.  She was handled there by Jr Handler Danica Eiswerth who also competed in Juniors with her dog Rita and won the best junior in the Specialty.

Halloween weekend we drove the 12 hours over the Rockies to Abbotsford BC and the Lower Mainland Dog Fanciers show (largest in Canada) held at the Tradex.  Smartie was Winners Bitch Friday over some lovely competition from Canada and the US, and then went Best of Winners over a very nice Am Ch who was Winners Dog.  Saturday she again was Winners Bitch, and all 3 days she was Best Puppy over several nice puppies including a Specials Puppy who already has BPIS's etc.  We were very proud of our little girl at 7.5 months of age, again handled by Danica Eiswerth.  She is now on 8 points (2 to go for her Canadian Championship).

Back home in Calgary AB at the Calgary K & O Club show, Friday Nov 27, 2009 she was WB & BOS, Saturday same again.  So we were sure she finished her Canadian Championship and moved her to Specials on Sunday where she was again BOS over other Specials.  So 3 weekends out and Canadian Champion at 8 1/2 months.

We will have her out in Canada, and will decide when to send her to show in the U.S. as well.  We are very proud of how our little girl is coming along!

Jan 2010, Ladies KC in Cloverdale BC.  Smartie was Best of Breed all 3 days.

Mar 5-7 2010, we drove 10 hours to Prince Albert SK for a nice limited-entry set of 6 shows.  Smartie was Best of Breed and Best Puppy in Breed in several of the shows, with 5 specials and class entries.  She also was Best Puppy in Group in 2 of the shows, and we were thrilled when she also won a Group 2.

BCDPC Easter Weekend, and Smartie was Grand Sweepstakes Winner under Dawn Danner, and then won Judge's Award of Merit under Mary White at the Specialty.  I was so proud of her! She was handled there by Heidi Gervais.

ADPC Specialty 2 weeks later Smartie received another Award of Merit, this time under Mary Rodgers. She was handled at this show by Trina Neil.

We travelled to Mt Baker KC for Smartie's first showing in the US.  Danica Eiswerth handled her to BOW her first day for her 1st US point, and she was RWB the second day.

In Portage La Prairie, MB for the DPCC Nationals she was handled by myself (Denise Mellor) for the following wins:                 DPCC Sweepstakes under Michelle Czeborarenku: Best in Sweeps

DPCC National Specialty under Pamela Dehetre: Award of Merit

All Breed show the day of the National, under Pat Taylor: Best of Breed and Working Group 1st.
